STYLE SPOTTING: GOWNS THAT WON THEIR TICKET TO UNIVERSE
When we think about the Universe, the E for Edgy stands out for sure. While the plethora of gowns this year have my heart, I am surprised to see from the window looking at the different aesthetics that are building this year’s batch of Miss Universe. We would be looking at a few gown styles that got the crown and for some they were bursts of colors in their truest sense in the fashion world.
By Vaishnavi Thatte, 26th September 2024Let's take a look at the styles that women wore to best represent the Miss Universe brand and its values.
Louder volume to make the presence felt
Colombia wrapped up the pageant with Mariana Zuleta, Maria Alejandra Salazar, Maria Clara, Daniela Toloza and Kimberly Hooker definitely stole my heart with their sequined and sparkling finale gowns.
All the ladies shone bright in silvers, reds and goldens as they competed for the crown of Miss Universe Colombia 2024. All I can say is Colombia’s pageant was royal, stylish and confident all at once. Done in the most classic pageantry style. most of them chose matching jewelry to go with their stunning evening gowns; be it bold earring and necklace sets or just matching long earrings. Maximalism is in, isn’t it?
The Love affair with rhinestones continue…but fierce!
Myanmar grabbed our attention next. Although Tess Anderson’s red and white finale gown reigned supreme; Ti Aye, Cherry Moe, Eaint Myat Chal and Myo Thandar Zaw too left their mark with impressive style propositions.
High side slits were all the rage in Miss Universe Myanmar 2024 as presented by these contestants. The style was accompanied by unique styling elements and jewelry not much different than their Colombian Sisters.
Staging the STRUCTURE
Each Miss Universe pageant is different, isn't it? Well, so are all the national rounds it seems. Because each pageant influences the fashion world uniquely. Diaphanous finale gowns stole the show in Miss Universe Ecuador 2024. The iconic evening gowns of Katherine Espin, Nadia Meija-Webb, Mara Topic Verduga, Ana Isabel and Shiomara Pico only prove that point further.
The distinctness of cuts and structures of the finale gowns in Ecuador are simply unparalleled, setting newer trends. As a nod to the extensions of cape, the styles added the needed fluidity.
Paint a ROYAL Universe
In Laos, the gowns’ main elements were jewels and transparent mesh, the former being the most important part of the traditional ‘beautifying’ process. Meanwhile the latter at to the jewels beauty and kept them in the limelight. Quite literally! The newest Miss Laos embodies this look.

Classics, a safe bet to the crown?
Let's take a look at the Land of Abundance: Peru. If you ask me, most contestants, like Tatiana Merel, Tatiana Calmell and Kassandra Ward played it safe with mostly silver and golden finale outfits. However, Vanessa Medina and Sofia Cajo grabbed my attention almost instantaneously with their bright green and crimson-silver sequined gowns respectively.

All the contestant countries, especially these five, have a lot to offer to the fashion world with their rich cultures and bold fashion statements. I stand by my opinion; this year’s Miss Universe is going to be a heaven of a ride!
